Madisonville police reported that 10-month-old Scottie Crowell died in August after being left unattended in a vehicle. A local grand jury has now ruled against indicting the child's grandmother.
On Tuesday, the grand jury concluded there was insufficient probable cause to bring charges. The decision resolves the criminal proceedings against the family member involved in the incident.
According to police records, the grandmother picked up Scottie in the morning on August 13. She intended to drop him off at daycare but forgot the child was in the car. She then drove to her workplace at Owensboro Health Multi-Care, where she practices medicine.
The child's father attempted to pick Scottie up from daycare around 4 p.m. When the infant was not there, the father contacted his wife. The mother called the grandmother at work, prompting her to rush outside to the vehicle.
First responders arrived after a 911 call and attempted to save the infant. Despite their efforts, Scottie Crowell died. Commonwealth’s Attorney Hannah Kington-Jarvis asked the public to keep the parents and family in their thoughts and prayers as they grieve.
