Green Bay wide receiver Christian Watson left Lambeau Field in an ambulance and returned to play before the third quarter ended.
Watson suffered a chest injury after catching a 53-yard pass with just over nine minutes remaining in the second quarter. He had already recorded six receptions for 100 yards before the incident. After leaving the stadium, he re-entered midway through the third quarter wearing his full uniform, including shoulder pads. The home crowd gave him a standing ovation as he ran back onto the field.
The 27-year-old receiver contributed two more catches for 13 yards after his return. His final reception proved decisive in the late stages of the contest. Carolina turned the ball over on downs while trailing 19-27. The Packers faced a third-and-2 situation with approximately two and a half minutes remaining. Watson gained seven yards on that play to convert the first down.
Green Bay used the clock to control the final drive, giving the ball back to Carolina with 22 seconds left. The Panthers were unable to score in the remaining time, resulting in a 27-19 loss. The outcome relied on a specific sequence of plays rather than a wide margin of error.
The Carolina offense struggled to protect its quarterback throughout the night. Bryce Young faced pressure on 22 of his dropbacks, a figure tied for the most in his career. He was sacked six times. Several other passes were rushed due to protection breakdowns. The Packers defensive line consistently penetrated the pocket without relying heavily on designed blitzes.
One interception for Young occurred when a Green Bay defensive lineman batted the ball at the line of scrimmage. The Panthers will face the Denver Broncos in Charlotte in Week 9. Denver entered the previous week tied for the NFL lead in sacks, presenting a similar challenge for the Carolina offensive line.
