700 Households Get Weekly Food Aid as FeedNC Seeks Turkeys
Rising costs have left 60% of local applicants skipping meals, prompting a drive for holiday donations and a December event for children.

FeedNC is asking for donations of 12 to 14 pound turkeys and pantry staples to help local families celebrate the upcoming holidays.
The organization serves approximately 700 households each week through its Grassroots Grocery program. Many of these families face rising costs for groceries and housing. Data from 2025 shows that 60% of households that applied for services reported someone skipping a meal or eating less due to a lack of food. Another 20% of those applicants reported going an entire day without eating.
Angela Kline, CEO of FeedNC, stated that these statistics reflect real people in the community, including parents, children, seniors, and working families. She explained that the goal is to allow families to celebrate without choosing between a special meal and other basic necessities.
Community members can support the effort by donating turkeys, traditional Thanksgiving fixings, and pantry items. Drop-off locations and deadlines are listed on the FeedNC webpage. The organization is also preparing for its annual Winter Wonderland event scheduled for December 19.
Winter Wonderland is open to children of current FeedNC member households. The event is a partnership with the National Charity League Lake Norman Chapter. The group is collecting new, unwrapped toys, gifts, and gift cards for children ages 3 through 17. Kline noted that gifts for teens are especially needed.
The organization will also run its Gift for Family program during the event. This initiative allows children to select a gift for an adult in their family. Kline said the event creates moments of joy for the entire family, not just the children. She added that seeing a child choose a gift for a loved one is special and helps families feel cared for by the community.
Donations for Winter Wonderland include new, unwrapped gifts for children, teens, and adults, as well as gift cards. Details on drop-off locations are available at feednc.org.
