Two seniors from Thomas Dale High School in Chesterfield County have been named the latest Play Chesterfield Scholar Athletes of the Week: Daniel Lewis and Alexandria Broadus.
Lewis plays football and runs track for the Knights, and he has received multiple college offers to continue his football career. Away from athletics, he serves as senior class president and sits on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. He holds a 4.53 GPA.
Broadus was part of the Thomas Dale team that won a state championship in basketball last year. She came back for her senior season as team captain and has drawn more than 15 Division I offers to play at the college level. She carries a 4.84 GPA and ranks ninth in her class. Her coaches point to her leadership, resilience and academic excellence.
The recognition is part of a new program called the Play Chesterfield Scholar Athletes of the Year, presented by 804 Travel. It is a partnership among Chesterfield County, the school system and CBS 6. Each week, the station will feature two students from every high school in the county as part of the program's first class.
Nominees were chosen based on academic excellence, athletic performance, leadership, sportsmanship, community involvement and character development.
One male and one female Scholar Athlete of the Year will be announced at a banquet for the Chesterfield Sports Hall of Fame on Friday, April 17. Each winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship, and their names will be inscribed in the Chesterfield Sports Hall of Fame at the River City Sportsplex. Additional details, including banquet tickets, can be found at PlayChesterfield.com.
The program's presenting sponsor, 804 Travel, is a Richmond-based sports travel company focused on efficient travel logistics for families and sports teams along the East Coast. The company says it draws on more than 25 years of hotel development and ownership experience through its partnership with SINA Hospitality.
